The South Island is bigger but fewer people live there, as 75% of the New Zealand population live on the North Island. Among the reasons that make the North Island more attractive for life of locals are weather, snow, skiing, surfing, transport, culture, sightseeing, geothermal activity, advanced civilization, and, the primary benefit, warm beaches.
