In 1912, Alfred Wegener, a meteorologist, and geophysicist established the continental drift theory that illuminated why identical and look-alike animals, plant fossils, and comparable rock formations are found on different continents. The critical reason experts did not acknowledge Wegener hypothesized that he proposed no mechanism for moving the continents. He believed that the force of Earth's rotation was adequate to cause continents to change their position automatically, but geologists distinguished that rocks are too strong for this to be factual.
