This is true because there are garbage patches in the oceans that decrease the life quality of people in these areas and destroy the environment including biome. Another example is Aral sea, formerly the largest lake on the planet. Its shrinking lead to terrible consequences to nature and local people (the soil was spoiled by the sea salt and the air quality vastly reduced).
