The majority of Greek philosophers during the classical times thought the Earth is much smaller than we know it today, and the shape of Earth reminds a curved plate. Although Eratosthenes performed measurements and calculations and figured out that the Earth is has a shape of a sphere and calculated the radius that is very close to modern measurements.
