What benefits does following the great circle give in global travels?

Is it Increased radio communications, Less travel time, Shorter travel distance, Less travel cost, or all listed can be benefits Less travel cost

The benefits are shorter travel distance. It does not mean that the trip will be necessarily cheaper or faster since following the great circle 'obliges' you to follow the shorter course no matter what landforms and weather conditions you will meet. Also, the infrastructure can be missing at all.
