travelling over a rough road with a horizontal velocity of 𝒗 m/sec. The road contour is
approximated by a sinusoid with a wavelength of 2 m and an amplitude of 3 mm. The
mass of the vehicle is 1500 kg. The equivalent spring constant of the suspension
system is 3 × 107 N/m and the system has a frictional coefficient of 1.5 × 105 N-s/m.
a. Write an expression for ‘y’ as a function of 𝒗 and time.
b. If 𝒗 = 𝟐𝟎 𝒎/𝒔, what is the maximum displacement and acceleration of the
body of the vehicle? Also add a matlab plot for this condition (input
displacement ‘y’ vs time and output displacement ‘x’ vs time on a single plot
with legend)
c. For what values of 𝒗 in m/s will the maximum displacement of the body be
limited to 4.5 mm?
d. For what value of 𝒗 the maximum displacement will be maximum? Find the
maximum displacement for that 𝑣.
