Task 1:
Prepare and deliver a presentation on two applications using electrical energy chosen from the list below:
• intelligent street lighting systems,
• automated processes and robotics in manufacturing,
• automated rail transport systems,
• electric cars
• solar powered space travel
Your presentation should include an explanation (in terms of electrical or electronic principles) how they use two of the following:
• Electromagnetic effects
• Sensors (photodiode, LED, position detectors, Hall effect, etc.)
• Computer control (including PLA (programmable logic arrays)
• Battery technologies
Task 2
Explain and justify how the existing technology can be used to improve one of the systems you chose for Task 1. Specify in terms of electrical principles, how you suggested improvement work.
Task 1
Intelligent street lighting systems- A smart street light system consists of a group of streetlight bulbs that can connect with one another and provide lighting data to a local concentrator. The concentrator controls and transmits the essential data to a secure server, which records and displays the data in a web browser dashboard.
A street lighting upgrade, complete with LED bulbs, wireless technology, motion sensors that activate lights when passersby are close, and linked technology that can warn the city when bulbs need to be changed, can help make roadways safer while saving governments money on power bills.
An electric cars-An electric automobile is one that is powered by one or more electric motors that use energy stored in rechargeable batteries to drive the vehicle. Electric vehicles are quieter, have no exhaust emissions, and emit less total pollution than internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles.
Task 2
Signify aims to revolutionize cities with Interact City, a software system for remote monitoring and control of connected street lighting, by providing not only energy-efficient smart street lighting but also the means to deliver smart city services that will benefit the environment, the economy, and citizens alike. The system can adjust the output of individual lamps remotely, identify flaws, analyze energy performance, and, when combined with sensors, even provide real-time notifications for city-wide issues such as traffic flow, parking spots, power outages, and potential accidents.
The battery is the most critical component of an electric vehicle, and it is also where some of the most significant advances are being achieved. The range has increased as charging times have decreased in recent years, and this trend is expected to continue.
