Answer to Question #289078 in Civil and Environmental Engineering for Topher

Question #289078

1.)If dry hydrogen gas at atmospheric pressure is burnt completely in a furnace with 32 % excess air, calculate the Orsat analysis of the flue gas from this furnace

2.)A furnace uses a coal the ultimate analysis shows 57.22 % C, 5.64 % H, 1.41 % N, 5.06 % S, and 14.67 % ash. If the sulfur in the ash is negligible and the excess air is 80 %, compute the Orsat analysis of the combustion gases.

A basis of hydrogen gas is considered and from the combustion reaction, the moles of oxygen are obtained. The theoretical amount of oxygen required and percent excess air is obtained. To obtain the orsat analysis unreacted oxygen moles , nitrogen moles and amount of water produced are needed. In furnace orsat analysis, we needed a basis for amount of coal.Mass and moles of all species are obtained .
