A. It is supported by a pin at D and a short aluminum EF. A steel wire BC having an
unstretched length of 110 mm is also supporting the rigid link at C. The cross sectional
area for the steel wire BC is 35.50 mm2
. On the other hand, a short aluminum block EF
having unloaded length of 75 mm and cross sectional area of 40 mm2
. The elastic
modulus for steel and aluminum are 200 GPa and 70 GPa, respectively.
i) Determine the average normal stress in the steel wire BC and aluminum block.
ii) Determine the displacement for points B and E of the link subjected to the vertical load applied.
