Among the principles, which determine ship design are economic, social and environmental. In particular: - functions of the ship under design; - degradation of the future ship structure due to corrosion, wear, fatigue or increased fuel consumption due to fouling; - shipboard habitability affected by noise, vibrations and noxious emissions (human); - pollutants to the environment due to use of anti-fouling paints or emissions.
