3.     A production line operation is designed to fill cartons with laundry detergent to a mean weight of 32 ounces. A sample of cartons is periodically selected and weighed to determine whether underfilling or overfilling is occurring. If the sample data lead to a conclusion of underfilling or overfilling, the production line will be shut down and adjusted to obtain proper filling.

A. Formulate null hypotheses and alternative hypotheses to assist in the decision to shut down and set up the production line. The null hypothesis is that in the study, a box with a standard all was chosen at random; an alternative would be the hypothesis that there is an underfilling or overflow in a randomly selected sample.


B. Comment on the conclusion and decision when H0 cannot be rejected. The null hypothesis cannot be rejected if the random box has a standard weight.


C. Comment on the conclusion and decision when H0 might be rejected. If during weighing it is found out that the balance is deviating.
