The survey involves finding out the respondent's opinion on a certain range of questions included in the questionnaire through personal or indirect contact between the interviewer and the respondent.
Technology
The survey consists of collecting primary information by directly asking people questions about their level of knowledge, attitudes towards the product, preferences, and purchasing behavior. As a rule, conducting a survey consists of several stages, namely:
development, verification, and replication of the questionnaire;
sampling;
instructing interviewers;
survey and data quality control;
processing and analysis of the information received;
drawing up a final report.
Survey types
Polls can vary:
by the method of contact with the respondent: in person, by phone, by mail (including e-mail) and via the Internet;
by the type of respondents: a survey of individuals, a survey of legal entities, a survey of experts;
at the place of the survey: at home, in the office, at the points of sale;
by type of sample: a survey of a representative or target sample.
As a rule, polls are more often distinguished by the way of contact with the respondent. Each type of survey has its own advantages and disadvantages.
Advantages:
low cost
ease of organizing the survey
available to a small group of researchers
when filling out the questionnaire, there is no influence on the respondent by the interviewer
illustrations can be used
Disadvantages:
Substitution of the sample due to “self-sampling”: people who have free time and are interested in the topic of the survey are more likely to participate in mail surveys
the respondent cannot clarify the questions with the interviewer
poor quality of answers to open questions
