The role of a mentor has changed over time, with mentors in ancient times being members of the same social class or profession as their mentees. Mentorship at the time was confined to guiding the mentee to become a better craftsman or more adept in his current work. While the scope of mentorship has broadened throughout time, mentors are now accountable for both personal and professional counseling.

In addition, mentees can now choose mentors from a variety of industries, and few mentors are younger than the mentees. This is especially significant since, with the advancement of technology, many senior citizens in our society require mentorship from young people who have a better understanding of how to use technology successfully.
