Johannesburg is one of these cities that are surviving on limited resources. These resources include renewable and nonrenewable resources. The overexploitation of such resources spun from unmet demand for resources such as transport, energy, and water. On the other hand, efforts to meet these demands require massive financing that might cripple the economy. Such actions also fail to be inclusive and disregard the poor slums.

Despite the overexploitation of the resources, the city of Johannesburg also susceptible experiences poor solid waste management, air pollution, and poor wastewater treatment. Poor biodiversity may lead to climate change, greenhouse gas emissions, and sometimes drought.

A proper solution for establishing sustainability pertains to a collaborative approach. Civil society groups, the private sector, and the government should join hands and achieve resource-efficient and environmentally friendly production. The partnership will help establish environmental services and new businesses that focus on green technology and a sustainable lifestyle. The public-private partnership will also help to upgrade the level of investment in urban environmental management.

      In conclusion, sustainable Johannesburg will be realized by bringing together various stakeholders, as the task requires a joint effort. The efforts will go a long way in improving the lifestyle of city dwellers and curb natural calamities.
