Section 37(ii) of Constitution gives the Department its basic mandate. It is now in charge of over 30 pieces of legislation. The notion of agriculture as including every economic event ranging from provision of farming inputs to farming and value addition is at the heart of this description of the national Department of Agriculture's responsibility.
Because the agricultural sector is constantly subjected to adjustments within marketing and production environment, legislative and policy environment regulating the field need to be adjusted regularly through revisions and, in other instances, legislation replacement.
