STATIN - the Statistical Institute of Jamaica. Official statistics in Jamaica are being produced in a fragmented environment, where each Ministry, Department and Agency (MDA) produces its own official data in accordance with its own policy guidelines. The Employment and Earnings Survey provides information on employment, earnings and hours worked in all sectors of the economy, with the exception of Agriculture, Government and private educational institutions. Data are collected quarterly from large establishments selected from a sampling frame of establishments based on their employment size and major economic activity. That is, the official employment statistics of STATIN shows only a part of the overall situation, therefore it is a misleading picture of the general state of the economy.
