The issue of substantive fairness concerns the reasons for the dismissal. Procedural fairness, on the other hand, is concerned with the legal procedures that must be followed by an employer prior to terminating an employee. As a result, procedural fairness refers to the method used to fire an employee. The existence of a just justification for dismissal is referred to as substantive fairness. The question is whether the employer followed a fair procedure prior to the dismissal.
