True, many housewives toil away for the rest of their lives without being recognized in any way. Most women now have the dual burden of working or running a business while also caring for their children and completing household duties. In economic terms, what is done at home is not taken into account when calculating Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Even gardening, cleaning your car, or painting your house is considered a leisure activity and is therefore not counted. A housemaid's contribution is included in GDP, while a homemaker's contribution is not.
