What is the effect of COVID-19 on the transport sector?

COVID-19 is deadly contagious diseases that have been on the rise since the end of 2019 to date that raised a global concern to device strategies of containing it from the spread and possible medical remedies. The transport sector is primarily affected following border restriction, cancellation of passenger movement on various modes of transport, and mandatory social distancing.

Public service vehicles for passengers have been hit greatly by a recognizable reduced number of people per trip as far as social distancing is concerned and this has an impact of reduced revenue per trip in each day. Few passengers in a trip over long distances are quite uneconomical to the business owners and sometimes they are reluctant to trade in long distances.

Airlines for passengers have been affected too by the pandemic as a result of lock downs in most countries where foreign trips are prohibited to prevent the spread of corona virus. Some passenger air vessels have shifted to the transportation of goods and the supply of medical facilities to places that need special attention. Ships and trains have been affected equally though not tremendously as most of these modes of transport concentrate mostly on cargo that is least affected and can be monitored and be disinfected by chemicals as opposed to humans.

The positive side effect of COVID-19 on the transport sector can be cited in most pedestrian movement that has been adopted in most towns to replace most automobiles that have been a problem to urban centers. There are reduced congestion, low traffic jams, and low pollution levels that have been the order of the urban transport sector.
