There is a growing rise in sustainable tourism in Asia. Ecotourism is becoming more popular as there has been a rise in nature-bound activities within Asia. Besides, a number of ecotourism policies have been implemented in various countries in Asia. Tourists visiting Asia are also embracing responsible tourism practices. Additionally, ecotourism movements such as the Asian Ecotourism Network have been formed to promote sustainable tourism in Asia.
Africa- Rating 5/10
Africa is currently at the heart of transforming its tourism to ensure long-term sustainability and help tackle climate change. Countries such as South Africa have taken the lead in practicing sustainable and responsible tourism.
Europe- Rating 6/10
Europe is on a journey to realize sustainable tourism. In April last year, the European Travel Commission released a road-map for Sustainable tourism transformation. Mass tourist destinations in Europe are currently adopting sustainable tourism practices.
North America- Rating 4/10
Sustainable tourism practices in North America are subject to regulations at various levels of the government. Countries like Canada have adopted begun practicing various initiatives aimed at achieving sustainable ecotourism. Some of the initiatives include the creation of peace parks.
Australia/Oceania- Rating 7/10
Sustainable tourism is slowly taking shape among Australian youths with most of them actively engaging in sustainable tourism practices. In 2009, Australia launched the ‘National Log Term Tourism Strategy’ which provided the framework geared towards achieving sustainable tourism in Australia. Besides, more businesses in the tourism industry such as Hidden Valley Cabins, and the Esplanade hotel, are engaging more in sustainable business practices
South America- Rating 7/10
South America is one of the best ecotourism destinations in the world. South America has put up a good network of national reserves and parks to provide a magnificent resource to tourists visiting the continent, to further responsible and sustainable tourism. Tourism businesses in the continent believe strongly in sustainable tourism to conserve the environment. This is achieved by using efficient transportation.
Antarctica- Rating 5/10
Antarctica’s tourism has experienced rapid growth in recent years, which has also had a negative impact on its environment. As a result, various tourism destinations like Polar Holidays have taken the initiative to protect the natural environment. Besides, the government has put down various restrictions on touring Antarctica. These include banning the use of aircraft for Antarctic wildlife. Most importantly, everything there is the 'Environmental protocol of the Antarctic Treaty ' that regulates all that people can do on the continent.
