Question #68942

Molar mass of an organic compound is greater then 100. It contains only carbon,nitrogen and hydrogen.persentage of carbon is 6 times of percentage of hydrogen whereas the sum of the percentage of carbon and hydrogen is 1.5 times percentage of nitrogen.What is the minimum molar mass of its compound?

Expert's answer

Let us denote as:
x- amount of carbon;
y- amount of nitrogen;
z- amount of hydrogen.
Thus:

x=6z
x+z=1.5y
12x+14+1z≥100

Finally x=18; y=14; z=3.
Answer : C_18 N_14 H_3.
