Blood group substances consist of macromolecules containing highly specific, serologically active antigenic sites responsible for their immunological individuality. They are composed of carbohydrates - glycoproteins. Since they responsible for the resistance and survival of organisms, carbohydrates as blood group substances play a major role in their existence.
