Question #49566

Why do particular combinations of atoms hold together, but not others?

Expert's answer

The atoms will be hold together when covalent or ionic/electrovalent bonds appear between them. Atoms, which share electrons in a chemical bound, have covalent bounds (for example, Oxygen O2). Ionic bound occur when electrons are donated from one atom to another (for example, NaCl).
