Every sample of a given substance has the same properties because thesubstance has a fixed, uniform composition. The substancehas a fixed composition because it contains the same type of atoms, where the number of protons of each atom does not change. Adding or removing protons from the nucleus of an atom creates adifferent element. So if you have a different element in your substance it means that you have a new substance.
