Sodium is a chemical element with the symbol Na and atomic number 11. Sodium at standard temperature and pressure is a soft, silvery metal that can be readily cut with a knife, and is a good conductor of electricity. It is highly reactive metal and is a member of the alkali metals; its only stable isotope is 23Na.
The most important sodium compounds include NaCl, Na2CO3, NaHCO3, NaOH, NaNO3, Na2S2O3•5H2O, Na2B4O7•10H2O.
