Question #38339

How to balance a chemical equation easily?

Expert's answer

Answer on Question #38339, Chemistry, Other

It is easy to balance a chemical equation using certain order of balancing of atoms:

1) Write down your given equation.

2) Write down the number of atoms that you have on each side of the equation. Look at the subscripts next to each atom to find the number of atoms in the equation.

3) Always leave hydrogen and oxygen for last. This means that you will need to balance the carbon atoms first (if the equation describes an organic reaction) or metal atoms (if the equation describes an inorganic reaction).

4) Add coefficients to the atoms (metal or carbon) on the right or left of the equation to balance it.

5) Balance the hydrogen atoms next.

6) Finish by balancing the oxygen atoms and other heteroatoms if any.
