Place not less than 20 Sodium salicylate tablets in a 200ml volumetric flask, add 100ml of water, then allow to stand, with frequent agitation, until the tablets disintegrate completely. Dilute to volume and mix. Filter through a dry filter into a flask, rejecting the subsequent filtrate, equivalent to about 500mg of sodium salicylate, and dilute if necessary, to make about 25ml. Add 75ml of ether and 10 drops of bromophenol blue, and then titrate with 0.1N Hydrochloric acid, mixing the water layer. Draw off the water layer into a small flask, wash the ether once with 5ml of water, add this to the water layer. Add 20ml of ether to the combined water solutions and mix. Continue the titration with vigorous shaking until permanent color is produced in the water layer.
