Consider the following reaction.
C6H12O6 + 6O2 => 6CO2 + 6H2O
This equation shows the overall reaction of the process of respiration, which is the set of chemical reactions that give energy to the majority of non-plant life on earth.
If I have 15 moles of oxygen and 7 moles of glucose (C6H12O6) which one will be the limiting reagent and how much carbon dioxide (CO2) will be produced?

According to the equation n(C6H12O6) = 6 x n(O2) If we have 7 moles of glucose there have to be 6 x 7 = 42 moles of O2, but we have only 15 moles of O2. The limiting reagent is the reagent which amount is not enought to complete the reaction. In our case it's O2 The amount of CO2 is n(CO2) = n(O2) = 15 moles
