Bleomycin is an anticancer drug. This compound induces the formation of DNA strand breaks. Bleomycin chelates metal ions and forms a compound that reacts with oxygen and produces reactive oxygen species that induce DNA damage. As a result, bleomycin induces oxidative damage of DNA.
