Thermophilic aerobic digestion is a process that is used for the treatment of sewage sludges and in the wastewater industry. The process consists of several steps:
- A feedstock is fed into a digester supplied with the air going through the biomaterial and stimulating the growth of aerobic bacteria.
- As the process is exothermic, the heat is maintained at a temperature between 55-65 °C.
- The retention proceeds for two-five days.
- Following the process, the digestate is dewatered and dried producing a bio-fertiliser and biogas as outputs.
