Question #109400

If I have an unknown quantity of gas at a pressure of 0.5 atm, a volume of 12 liters, and a temperature of 250 K, how many moles of gas do I have?

Expert's answer

According to the ideal gas law:

PV = nRT

where P - pressure, V - volume, n - number of moles, R - gas constant (0.08206 L atm/mol K), T - temperature.

From here:

n = PV / RT = (0.5 atm × 12 L) / (0.08206 L atm/mol K × 250 K) = 0.3 mol

Answer: 0.3 mol
