Bowling ball

Diameter: 25.4 cm

Surface area of the widest part: A = πr2

A = 3.14 x (25.4 : 2)2 = 39.878 cm2

Surface of the Earth:

5.1 x 108 km = 5.1 x 1018 cm

Area of a mole of bowling ball =

SA of ball x 1 mole = 39.878 x 6.022 x 1023 = 240.15 x 1023 cm2

Number of times covering the Earth =

SA of 1 mole of bowling ball : SA of Earth = 240.15 x 1023 : 5.1 x 1018 = 47 x 105

Depth it would cover to = # of times it would cover the Earth x bowling ball diameter = 47 x 105 x 25.4 = 1.2 x 108 cm
