Sulfur dioxide consists of one central sulfur atoms and two hydrogen atoms. Sulfur has six valence electrons – two of them are shared with two hydrogen atoms and are involved in bonding whereas four other electrons form two lone pairs. To minimize repulsion between two lone pairs of electrons and two bonding pairs, a molecule with a bent structure must be formed. In this case, all electron pairs are located almost at the same angles - 90°. More specifically, the bond angle in H2S equals approximately 92°.
