Molecules can be differentiated into two types by several parameters.

and

polyatomic molecules: H₂, CH₄, NO₂, ...

2. Monoelemental molecules: H₂, Ar, O₂, P₄, ...

and

polyelemental molecules: H₂O, CH₄, CH₂ClF, ...

3. Polar molecules: H₂O, HCl, CH₂Cl₂, ...

and

non-polar molecules: CH₄, Ar, H₂, C₂H₆, ...
