Question #134926

A reaction (A- product) is found to be second order in nature. find out its rate constant given the fact that 0.04M of reactants decreases to 0.005M in 10 minutes.

Expert's answer

Ans.

Rate equation of a second order reaction having initial concentration of the reactant [R]0  and after time t concentration becomes [R] and the rate constant is k

1/[R]=kt+1/[R]0

For present reaction, [R] = 0.005M, [R]0  = 0.04 M, t = 10 minutes,

Putting these values,

k = 17.5 M−1·min−1 (Ans.)
