Show the products of applying the reaction “Hydration of an Alkene” to the following molecule:

CH2CHCHCH 3

1. Try to dissolve a crystal of NaCl and a small flake of naphthalene/menthol crystal in 1 cm3 of each of the following solvents commonly found in the home; kerosene, ethanol (rubbing alcohol/methylated spirits), acetone (nail polish remover) and water. State whether the solids are insoluble, sparingly soluble, soluble or very soluble in each of the solvents.

2. Determine whether the solvents mix with one another. Use no more than 1 cm3 liquid. Just state whether miscible or immiscible.

3. Use your observation from 1 and 2 above, along with course content from CHM 1102, to identify the dominant intermolecular forces for each mixture.

A conductivity cell having a cell constant of 0.5 cm–1 filled with 0.02 M solution of KCl at

298 K gave a resistance of 20.2 Ω. The water used for preparing the solution had a conductivity

of 7.1 × 10–6 S cm–1. Calculate the molar conductivity of 0.02 M KCl solution.

What is the ph of a solution whose hydrogen ion concentration is 1.413 ×10-5 g. Ions/litre

What is the pH of a 0.350M solution of lithium citrate? ( Ka Citric acid= 7.4 x10-4 ) (4 marks)

A 50.0 ml solution of 0.150M acetic acid ( CH3COOH) is titrated with 0.150M NaOH. What is the ph after 20.0 mL of base has been added? Ka CH3COOH= 1.8 x10-5 (5 marks)

A titration was performed on a 10.00-mL sample of water taken from an acidic lake. If it took 9.56 mL of 0.0412 mol/L NaOH(aq) to neutralize the sulphuric acid in the lake water sample, calculate the concentration of the sulphuric acid. What is the pH of this lake water? Full GRASS solution.

In the determination of transference numbers of HCl by moving boundary method a 0.10 M

solution of HCl was taken in a cell having uniform area of cross section of 1.6 cm2

. At the end of

experiment the boundary moved by 11.7 cm and 0.22 g of silver was deposited on the cathode of

silver coulometer. Calculate the transference numbers of ions of HCl.

A conductivity cell having a cell constant of 0.5 cm -1

filled with 0.02 M solution of KCl at

298 K gave a resistance of 20.2 Ω. The water used for preparing the solution had a conductivity

of 7.1 × 10–6 S cm–1. Calculate the molar conductivity of 0.02 M KCl solution
