Answer on Question #97262 – Chemistry – Organic Chemistry
Task:
A 0.3259g of (KPH) required 20.15ml of NaOH for neutralization. Calculate the molarity of NaOH.
Solution:
"KHP" - potassium hydrogen phthalate (KHC8H4O4, Molar mass = 204.2 g/mol).
KHP has one acidic hydrogen atom, and reacts with NaOH on a 1:1 stoichiometric basis:
KHC8H4O4 + NaOH = NaKC8H4O4 + H2O.
Then,
n(KHP) = n(NaOH);
m(KHP) / M(KHP) = Cm(NaOH)*V(NaOH);
Cm(NaOH) = m(KHP) / (M(KHP*V(NaOH);
Cm(NaOH) = 0.3259 / (204.2 * 0.02015) = 0.0792 (mol/L).
Answer: Cm(NaOH) = 0.0792 mol/L.
