The following structures shown below are carcinogenic.




i) What is the mechanism of carcinogenic action of benzo[a]pyrene? Hint: consider metabolism of PAH by liver. [4 marks]

ii) What makes the compound carcinogenic? Hint: consider amine nitrogen of guanine and disruption in the guanine DNA double helix structure. [4 marks]
