Explain the origin of D-line in the spectrum of sodium atom using suitable diagram.

Sodium D-lines is emitted in the transition between the ground and excited electron states. Actually D-line of sodium consists of two lines, D1 and D2, corresponding to 589.6 and 589 nm. This splitting is due to spin-orbital effect.
