Question

In process of alkaloid extraction with soxhlet we know that for liberating the free bases we add alkaline like Ammonia. Why does excess of Ammonia make the alkaloids to incompeletly extracted but diluted ammonia is proper for extraction?

I mean caffeine by Alkaloid which is weak base alkaloid
