The most stable conformation of butane is anti conformation and it's least stable conformation is eclipsed conformation. Why?
Because of different steric interactions, the most stable conformer is the anti conformer. The second-most stable conformer is the gauche conformer
The eclipsed conformation is said to suffer torsional strain because of repulsive forces between electron pairs in the C―H bonds of adjacent carbons.
