What is decolourisation?
What are saturated and unsaturated compounds?
Solubility test on phenols acid base and neutral solution
Decolorization refers to the method of removing brightly colored organic impurities from the sample mixture.
A saturated compound is only composed of carbon-carbon single bonds.Unsaturated compounds can have double bonds and triple bonds as well. For example, alkenes contain double bonds and alkynes contain triple bonds.
Small, polar organic compounds such as alcohols, aldehydes, ketones, amines, carboxylic acids, and a few phenols are soluble in water. Water-soluble compounds are tested with pH paper to see if they are acidic or basic. A pH of 4 or lower indicates a carboxylic acid. A pH of 8 or higher indicates an amine.
