What would be the name of the product that would result from the reaction of propan-1-ol with excess potassium dichromate?
Stripping off one hydrogen atom on the alpha carbon of the alcohol ,and another hydrogen atom on the oxygen of the hydroxyl group, you get the aldehyde;
by further stripping off the hydrogen atom on the carbonyl carbon of the aldehyde, and shove an oxygen atom onto it, and then protonate the oxygen atom, you get the acid.
