Melting point
-Make sure that your sample is solid and dry by leaving them in a desiccator or an oven at 500c overnight. Sprinkle a thin layer of dry crude aspirin and the recrystallised aspirin on the ‘melting point determining block’ in two different areas. Heat the block slowly to increase the temperature and note the temperature range over which each substance melts.
Q/ Record the melting point ranges of the pure and impure samples and include a description of the melting process in each case. Research the theoretical melting point of aspirin and the salicylic acid and record. Account for any difference between the melting points of crude and recrystallised samples of aspirin
