Butanoic acid reacts with ethanol in the presence of dilute tetraoxosulphate VI acid to form ethylbutanoate and water. This is an esterification reaction. And the product is an ester.

The equation of reaction is given below:

CH3CH2CH2COOH + CH3CH2OH----> CH3CH2CH2COOCH2CH3 + H20


The structure of the product, ethylbutanoate is given below
