In a dry powder fire extinguisher there is a chemical known as KHCO3 and I want to ask how KHCO3 works in a chemical equation to extinguish the fire.

KHCO3 + heat = K2CO3 + CO2 + H2O - this blocks the access of oxygen to the firing zone.
