Why should the glass tubing and stopper be moistured with water?

Answer:

Glass tubes and rubber stoppers moisturize in order to reduce the friction of rubber on the glass when its plug stopper that promotes better sealing tube. Also, water enters the pores formed between the stopper and the glass and is held there by osmotic pressure.
