Answer on Question#40525-Chemistry-Inorganic Chemistry

Question

Which of these two molecules loose 'K' very easily KCl or potassium dihydrogen phosphate?

Answer

Both salts dissociate easily.

But KCl looses K very easily (in water solution), because K – Cl bond is more polar than K – O bond in KH2PO4\mathrm{KH_2PO_4}.

It may also be proved by the solubility values:

KCl solubility (20C)=344 g/L=4.61 mol/L(20^{\circ}\mathrm{C}) = 344\ \mathrm{g/L} = 4.61\ \mathrm{mol/L}

KH2PO4\mathrm{KH_2PO_4} solubility (20C)=226 g/L=1.66 mol/L(20^{\circ}\mathrm{C}) = 226\ \mathrm{g/L} = 1.66\ \mathrm{mol/L}
