Is dry cleaning really dry?

The dry cleaning process isn't dry; that term just means that water isn't part of it. The clothes are mixed with solvents that remove oil and grease stains better than soap and water do. Then they are put into a machine that works much like a regular washing machine but dries the clothes, too.
