Question #86680
A sample of nitrogen gas at 315 K and 1.73 atm occupies a volume of 1.83 L. If the gas is allowed to expand to a larger volume , while at the same time it is heated to a higher temperature, the final gas pressure

A. will be lower than 1.73 atm.
B. will be higher than 1.73 atm.

We should use Ideal Gas Law to answer this question

"PV = nRT"

"\\therefore P = \\frac{nRT}{V}"

We can see that n and R stay the same whereas T and V change. As we do not know the changed values of T and V, we can not say how the value "\\frac{T}{V}" will change exactly, this value could be higher or lower than 1.73 atm depending on the final volume and temperature (answer c.)

Answer: C. could be higher or lower than 1.73 atm depending on the final volume and temperature.
